Traveling With Guns

Traveling with guns is hard, but not impossible. The best way to avoid any headache is to follow the rules that are listed by the federal and local government, and to also purchase the appropriate equipment to carry your weapon in.

The appropriate gun case is the most important accessory for traveling with a gun. Per regulations, all airline passengers are required to store their gun in a hard case with integrated combination locks or heavy-duty padlocks.  If you use padlocks, the owner of the weapon must be in possession of the keys to the lock box.  The main concern when traveling with a gun is to ensure that nobody else has access to your weapon.  Most custom carrying cases can be designed to ensure the safety of your weapon during transit. Blow-molded cases are incredibly safe and durable.

Never travel with a loaded weapon. Make sure that the chamber and magazine of your weapon is empty before leaving your house. Also, it is illegal to pack over 11 pounds of ammunition, so weigh your ammo before leaving as well.

If you are unsure of regulations, it is always wise to double-check the airline’s website and TSA’s or rules and regulations. All airlines have similar rules, but not all are the same.
